AMD unveils new notebook graphics chips

AMD has two new graphics chips for notebooks presented: AMD Radeon HD 6500m and 6300m HD. As with the Desktop GPUs Radeon HD 6000 Series dispensed on the old AMD ATI brand name. The M behind the serial number replaces the extra mobility, the previously characterized the mobile graphics chips.

Technically, the new chips are similar to its predecessor introduced in January HD 5600 and HD 5400. The HD 6500m works with 500 to 650 MHz GPU clock and 400 Stream processing units. The HD 6300m offers 500 to 750 MHz while a higher GPU clock speed, but has only 80 stream processors, so the processing power compared to the HD 6500m 400-520 gigaflops to 80 to 120 gigaflops decreases.

The memory speed of the new AMD GPUs are at 900 MHz. The HD 6500m has an interface for GDDR5 and DDR3 memory. The HD 6300m only uses DDR3 RAM. Both models support DirectX 11, Shader Model 5.0, OpenGL 4.1 and HDMI 1.4a.

Even late last week had Acer Notebooks with the series graphics chips AMD Radeon HD 6000M announced. For the models Aspire X GPUs are the HD 6370 and HD 6550 with 512 MB of graphics memory or 1GB of dedicated DDR3 RAM available. They should provide sufficient power for current games.
